Although I use various hardwoods, more recently I have been working with Maple and Oak and Im beginning to favour them as a material.
Oak has a traditional rugged feel about it and can display some beautiful grain patterns. It can be difficult to finish and I tend to keep some of the grainy feel to my pieces.
In contrast, Maple looks pale and delicate but can have some stunning grain patterns that need care to bring out of the piece. Maple is a deceptively strong material and turns well. It is a pleasure to finish and with patience an excellent polished finish can be achieved.
So watch out for my new Oak and Maple collections this spring
Cheers for now
