From Crafting Hobby to Sophies Stitches

For as long as I can remember, I’ve always loved being creative. Crafting started as something I could enjoy in my spare time, especially around my job as a flight attendant. With a busy lifestyle, crafting gave me something completely different to focus on. It became my little escape — something I could sit down and enjoy, wherever I was.

What started as a hobby slowly became something much bigger.

I would make things for myself, friends and family, and time and time again I’d hear the same comment: “You should sell these!” At first, I never really thought much of it. I was just making things because I loved it. But the more people said it, the more I started wondering whether they might actually be onto something.

Friends and family began asking if they could buy the things I made, and I started experimenting with different designs, colours and products. Before I knew it, I wasn’t just crafting for fun anymore — I was creating pieces that other people genuinely wanted.

That’s where Sophie’s Stitches began.

What started with a ball of yarn and a hobby has grown into my own little handmade business. I now create everything from colourful crochet bags and plushies to mug rugs, coasters and other unique accessories.

One of my favourite things about handmade crafting is that no two pieces are ever exactly the same. Every item takes time, patience and lots of stitches, and I love knowing that something I’ve made by hand is going to become part of someone else’s life.

Starting a small business alongside being a flight attendant has definitely been a learning curve, but it has also been incredibly exciting. I’m still learning, experimenting and figuring things out as I go, but I’m so proud of how far Sophie’s Stitches has come.

So, to everyone who told me “you should sell these” — you were right.

And to everyone who has supported, ordered from, shared or simply encouraged Sophie’s Stitches so far, thank you. This little hobby has become something I never expected, and I can’t wait to see where it takes me next.
