Im new here

Hi, my name is Louise. I’m a Lino print maker based in East Sussex.

"Many creatives take paths away from their work, but always find their way back"This isn’t so much a blog post as it is an introduction — a simple hello.

Just over year ago, I made the decision to hand in my notice as a Producer on a popular podcast and go back to my first love of creating. It was something I had considered for a while, but never felt quite brave enough to make the jump.

After I did my art foundation back in the late 80s, I took a year out and decided to go to drama school. My vague plan was to become a scene painter but somehow I graduated as a Stage Manager spending a few years working in theatre, before making the move into television.

Although I was happy in my career, I always had the sense that something was missing — that my creative outlet wasn’t being fully realised and was slowly ebbing away. When my children came along, I carved out time to sketch and attend life-drawing sessions, but somewhere along the way I had lost my confidence.

Over the past year, I have focused on learning printmaking and have built a body of work I’m incredibly proud of, opening my online shop and starting to sell my work.

Someone recently said to me that many creatives take different paths away from their work, but almost always find their way back to their art. I think this is especially true for women, who often dont create that space for themselves until their children have left the nest. That said, I know plenty of men who have had high flying careers left floundering when they come to an end, but then happily rediscovering their creative sides. I think so many of us get on the treadmill and dont look back, desperately looking for something a bit more fulfilling as we reach our fifties.

Anyway - I for one am very happy to be here and also very open to receive advice from seasoned exhibitors willing to share their thoughts. So do get in touch.

My work is more informed now by the life I’ve led. I’ve found great solace in my work - when you put emotion in, it gives you so much back. It’s also given me great community. Possibly the oldest adage in history, but I think the main takeaway here, is that it’s never too late to start again.
