The city of Dundee (called Dun De in Scottish Gaelic) is located on the Firth of Tay and during previous centuries among its main industries were textiles and publishing. Dundee Contemporary Arts opened in the year 1999 and houses a cinema, art galleries and studio running courses and workshops teaching a range of arts and crafts skills. The galleries in the arts centre are a venue for exhibitions of work by local emerging talent as well as established contemporary artists from around Scotland and other countries. The McManus is an art gallery and museum first opened in the year 1867 and extended during subsequent decades. Today the Victorian Gothic style building houses collections including natural history, social history, ceramics, glassware and fine art. Other attractions in Dundee include Broughty Castle, Discovery Point, Dundee Repertory Theatre, Verdant Works, Monikie Country Park, Mills Observatory and Camperdown Country Park.
