Illuminated image from Aberdeen Bestiary
A medieval miniature of two turtledoves from the Aberdeen Bestiary (MS 24), for. 32r. This has been created using medieval techniques, preparing the image onto vellum (calfskin), then gesso and gold-leaf is applied before being painted. The gesso is home-made from a medieval recipe, and the gold-leaf attached as it would have been in a medieval scriptorium or workshop.
