200,000 year-old Palaeolithic hand axe in an ash frame
This amazing piece of prehistory was knapped by one of mans ancestors - either Homo erectus or Homo heidelbergensis, around 200,000 years ago.
The tool is actually an ovate-shaped early Palaeolithic hand-axe, dating from the Mid Acheulian period, and fashioned from a fine-grained hardstone. This enigmatic hand-axe is bifacially-worked and beautifully preserved with a deep tan patina.
Framed in hand-finished ash, it would make a great talking point in any home.
