The Wader

The Wader was hand constructed using chicken wire over a copper armature. When the desired shape was created it was covered with plaster-of-pars bandage, left to dry and then covered again with adhesive cement. Once sanded to smooth finish, mosaic decoration began. The materials used were smalti and unglazed ceramic porcelain and each piece of tesserae has been hand cut by me. Some parts were grouted but the smalti areas remain un-glazed. The legs are embedded in a solid piece of oak which was then mosaiced.
