A 150mm leather costrel ideal for carrying lead shot balls up to 20mm

Hand made Leather Costrel ideal for carrying Musket lead shot balls up to 20mm plus they also can be used to hold cold liquid drinks, being hand made every Costrel is unique so minor alterations from the pictures are possible.
These have been designed and made by myself with veg tan leather, saddle stitched, with a wood stopper and sealed with a mixture of beeswax and food grade pine resin.
The shape has been formed by filling the wet leather pouches with ceramic cooking beads and then allowing to dry and removing the beads. Then melted mixture of wax/resin is applied until the leather is saturated and then allowed to cool to set the finished shape. The stopper is then tied to the costrel.
Care must be taken to avoid the Costrels being exposed to sunlight or to heat sources as this may soften the wax/resin and cause distortion or leakage to occur.
A water test is undertaken to prove the costrel and to establish the volume.

The Style is frequently used for carrying the lead balls for muskets.

We do not use single use plastic in the production of this item.
