Black Jack Leather Tankards

Handsewn leather tankard sealed with a mixture of beeswax and pine resin.

Made entirely from veg tan leather, and hand stitched with waxed tread. Firstly the tube is sewn together using saddle stitch, the base is then wet formed to fit into the base of the tube when dry sewn into the tube base. The handle is formed by folding a strip of leather in half and sewing together along its length and then sewn onto the top of the tube. This makes the structure complete. The Tankard is then sealed with a melted beeswax and food safe pine resin and by pouring the mix inside the tankard until it has soaked through all the leather, once it has cooled the mug is waterproof and it becomes rigid.
The Black Jacks should only be used with cold liquids such as Ale, Beer or similar.
The tankard should not be left in direct sun or near heat as heat exposure may cause wax to melt causing misshaping or leaks. If this occurs gently reheat to reshape and allow the soft wax to reseal the leak.
Being hand made each Black Jack is unique and the dimensions may vary from those listed below.
