Celebration of the 1970 London to Mexico World Cup Rally.
The Ford Escort Mk 1 Mexico was a special edition of the Ford Escort and was manufactured between 1970-1974. It was produced in celebration of a Ford Escorts win in the 1970 London to Mexico World Cup Rally where it was driven by Hannu Mikkola and Gunnar Palm. It had a 1598cc cross flow engine producing 85bhp and its body was strengthened making it suitable for the amateur motor sports competitor. There were just over 10,000 Mexico variants manufactured.
I photographed this car at the London to Brighton Classic Car Run in June 2019.
