A small spalted, live edge blackthorn bowl

This bowl is turned from spalted blackthorn to have a live edge. Live edge or natural edge is a style of furniture where the natural edge of the wood into the design of the piece.Where possible I leave the natural holes and cracks in the wood whilst other fill them with resins.
Spalting is any form of wood colouration caused by fungi. Although primarily found in dead trees, spalting can also occur in living trees under stress. Although spalting can cause weight loss and strength loss in the wood, the unique colouration and patterns of spalted wood are sought by woodworkers.
