Frit ball bowl

Frit ball bowl

Frit Ball bowl in black, white, clear and red. Approximate size 16cm diameter x 4 cm.

A bowl to hold small items or just as a decorative piece.
This bowl is made entirely from small balls of glass. Sheet glass was heated in the kiln before being plunged into cold water and hit with a hammer to make small fragments of glass called frit. These were turned into small balls by heating in the kiln to fusing temperature. After cooling and cleaning the glass balls were arranged in a dam and heated just enough to fuse them together without losing their shape to form a disc. The final step was to slump this disc in a mould.
