“BA (hons) Illustrator with a talent for Caricature. Can draw live Caricatures approx 10 minutes per face.”
Caricature is defined as a picture, description, or imitation of a person in which certain striking characteristics are exaggerated in order to create a comic or grotesque effect.
I have a display of my work which is mixed media ink and coloured pastel caricatures of various famous people in order to entice the public to want one themselves. For a reasonable fee per face Ill get them to sit down and I draw them in full view of passers by. This acts as a demonstration also and attracts more customers. It tends to generate quite a buzz and is very popular with families and couples and creates a good atmosphere.
I do black and white (ink only) and colour (ink and pastels) of one person (on A3) or two (on A2) I can do families up to 4 on a sheet of A2. I have an Honours degree in Graphic Design and have worked professionally as an illustrator. I got into this by working on the Central Pier in Blackpool for two years at evenings and weekends where I learnt how to get fast results with coloured pastels and marker pens. I have also worked as a painter and a Graphic Designer and can create art in Photoshop and Illustrator.
Caricatures, when they are done well, are a great piece of art and they show people that you have a sense of humour about yourself. I have never had a dissatisfied customer!
