Bev The Bag Lady - Sewing

Bev The Bag Lady

“Fabric and crocheted gifts made to raise money for various charities.”

The Bag Lady was conceived in 2016 when it became apparent that people were happy to buy my crocheted and fabric/quilted bags and gifts which until then I had made for friends and family.

I have crocheted for many years but am fairly new to sewing, I started out buying a machine so that I could make linings for my crocheted bags, I soon realised the creative potential for making bags and gifts out of wonderfully coloured fabrics.

Colours and textures are the starting point for designing a bag, I love to work with plain denims and add panels of eclectic colours and prints to create something unique. I use a wide variety of fabrics and prints on the outer part of bags and can then have fun using matching/clashing fabric as the lining. The same goes for my crocheted bags where I use chunky yarns for the outer and colourful cotton fabric linings. The bags I make can be tote style, messenger bag style or handbag style, all are made with 100 percent cottons and yarns, I use a mixture of wool and synthetic yarns for durability in the crocheted bags. Bags come with a variety of outer or inner pockets depending upon the style chosen and straps that are triple sewn for added strength.

I make bunting in varying lengths and colours as well as fabric bags for children to be used for toys, books or whatever they want to store in them. Seasonal gifts like Christmas stockings, table runners and decorations are also added when the mood takes me.

I am a supporter of Battersea Dogs Home and use the profits from my craft to raise funs for them as well as Pets As Therapy as one of my dogs is a registered therapy dog who brings great pleasure to people suffering with dementia. I also support Scope (formerly Mencap) as I volunteer with a local centre and see the wonderful work that they do. By buying one of my bags you are helping these charities and also acquiring something unique and handmade.
