“I work as an Artist Blacksmith in rural Staffordshire making comtempory artwork using traditional blacksmithing techniques with coke forge and hammer.”I am an Artist Blacksmith based in mid-Staffordshire.
I specialise in interior sculptural functional pieces.
In much of my work I have taken inspiration from the natural world, in particular the growth of plants.
The tendrils of plants such as sweet peas and the growth of ferns provide an endless variety of shapes, with an emphasis on spirals and twists. I can reproduce this by drawing out a piece of steel using traditional forging techniques, and then twisting it into unique shapes, mirroring the unique nature of each plant.
Images of plant growth provide the real life shapes that I aspire to reproduce in metal.
Many of my pieces are on a fairly small scale, as I have found that my individual style seems to suit smaller items, as it reflects the delicacy and the form that is often found in nature.
My work is intended to be contemporary, innovative and appealing. Every component of my work is hand forged and totally unique. If looked after, I expect all of my work to last a lifetime to give beauty to many future generations.
