Handmade jewellery using genuine gemstones and precious metals
I have always been into arts and crafts. I used to produce handmade greetings cards but it took up too much room so had to give it up. I needed an outlet for my creative urges and the joy of making jewellery was born.
In the beginning I used normal beads, I would scour charity shops for pieces that I could break down and make into something else. I then discovered the beauty of genuine gemstones.
We all know about diamonds, sapphires, rubies and emeralds, but there are so many more precious stones that are just as beautiful and, in some cases, more rare. Before I started making jewellery I had never heard of Tanzanite, Amazonite or Labradorite. These gems, amongst others are some of the most beautiful and interesting stones produced by mother nature, hence the name Gift of the Earth, because that is what they are.
The stories and myths behind some of these gems are fascinating and I am constantly learning new things. For example, did you know that Cleopatra supposedly ground down Lapis Lazuli and used it as eye shadow?
Jewellery is a very personal thing and choosing a piece for someone else can sometimes be difficult. I like to get a feel for the person whom the piece is for, so may ask questions about what colours they like to wear, are there any particular gems they are drawn to etc. In this way I can hopefully produce something that the recipient will treasure.
All birthstones are available and commissions undertaken. I do make stock items such as earrings and bracelets, however as each gem is different, each piece of jewellery is unique.
I hope that the jewellery you buy from me will go on to become an heirloom item, passed down from generation to generation, enjoyed and treasured.
