Artisan Handmades
Hello, I am Christine Hopwood. I am an artist with a home studio/workshop in Bethersden, Kent. As an artist I am ecletic working in many mediums, but mainly portraits in clay and oil paint. I also sew to a high standard and, this has rather naturally evolved Artisan Handmades. I have sewn all my life, mostly evening wear for myself, friends and family. In recent years this has included bridal wear, culminating in 2014 with my own daughters wedding and bridesmaid dresses. I particularly like to work with natural fabrics and have a passion for upcycling and recycling...my daughters wedding dress was made from two recycled wedding dresses and a lucky find of beautiful beeded and embroidered silk. These were completely de-constructed and reconstructed in the style of an Elizabethan ball gown for her Midsummer Dream wedding. This highlights the ethos of Artisan Handmades - that each item is unique in some fashion, be it design, material or artistic embellishment. For art and craft fairs my stall will typically include bags, hats and small items of apparel as well as individually made watercolours, prints and cards.
