Madilyn’s Ecojars began during the quiet days of COVID, when boredom pushed me to create a tiny world inside a jar using pond water from the local creek. What I thought would be a one-off experiment quickly turned into a fascination—I started refining the idea with aquarium water, lush aquatic plants, and captivating little invertebrates, and soon I was gifting these living worlds to friends and family. Their reactions made me realize I had something special, and that’s when my small business was born. Each Ecojar is a 2-liter self-sustaining aquatic terrarium filled with thriving plants and miniature creatures like shrimp, snails, daphnia, and ostracods, all working together in a perfectly balanced ecosystem. The plants produce oxygen, the invertebrates return nutrients, and the microscopic cleaners keep everything sparkling. I create both colourful and natural styles, and each jar is designed to be easy to care for—just provide natural or artificial light, and the ecosystem does the rest. With sealed lids and low-maintenance routines, Ecojars bring a magical, living slice of nature into any space.
