Handcrafting and up cycling vintage items
My name is Ruth, and I have had a love of crafting and up cycling my whole life. I’m in my 40s and I thought it’s about time I showed people these ideas and creations. Most of all I up cycle old/vintage items into something beautiful and reusable, either as a decorative item, or something useful, or both. In recent years I have worked hard to rid our home of as much single use plastic as possible, and to purchase local eco friendly products. The desire to do what we can to look after our planet has driven me when creating my items.
I mostly source vintage books, maps and song sheets to recreate them into flowers to sell individually, in bunches, or to create book art. Flowers are created to be used in multiple ways for example in a bridal bouquet, wedding table centre displays, on wreaths, or in a vase.
Vintage books are made into planters, candle holders, or coffee table displays.
I also regularly look for items that are no longer wanted or have no use any more and create new life into them. Items, for example, can include old pine frames painted and styled to suit the latest looks and colours, and reused as picture hooks, shelves, toilet roll holders, and more. Unwanted wooden curtain hoops are made into candle holders and more
What is made evolves over time to suit the season and fashions.
