Peter Short - Sculpture

Peter Short

I am a metal sculptor creating one off unique depictions of derelict buildings or things of interest from Steel Glass and Stone

I am a mechanical development engineer of over 40 years experience. I have spent my working life developing products and systems for the motor industry. I have turned my hand to sculpture using my engineering skills to create one off pieces from steel, glass and stone, inspired by derelict buildings, pathways, steps, and things of interest you might see when you are out walking, which I do a lot. These are not models but representative of things you might see around. They might remind you of a place you visit or have seen or somewhere you love to go, footpaths you may have walked.
Each block is individually carved and each of the sculptures are built by assembling these blocks, then I might add some stained glass to add to the overall image to add some depth and another dimension to each sculpture... for example I have re-created a Cornish tin mine and added some deep orange glass to one window to represent the heat created when the mine was in use. I have made several Gothic arch windows with tumble down walls and added stained glass as a nod to the buildings original state.
Each of the Sculptures are mounted on Steel or Stone. Each sculpture is heat treated and dipped to give a unique patination then finally each one is lacquered and a felt base added to protect your sideboard or window ledge!
