New Place Pottery and Paintings

Our love of art has blossomed alongside our relationship and is inspired by our passion for nature, both on land and under the sea.

We are Tony and Tracy and our newly established studio is New Place Pottery.
We have both painted for many years but took up pottery 5 years ago to develop our artistic vision through a more tactile medium. We each have our own distinct artistic styles and our work is informed by both the local wildlife and the sealife we observe when indulging in our other shared passion for scuba diving.
We are inspired by past masters of ceramics such as the Martin Brothers and Bernard Pallisy, and painters such as the Impressionists and William Turner.
Our ceramics are hand thrown and turned and we then use techniques such as Sgraffito, incising and slip painting , casting and direct modelling before bisque firing. This is followed by oxide and glaze combinations to create entirely hand built, unique pieces
When painting, Tony works on a larger scale using oils and has developed his own unique impressionist approach. Tracy works using various combinations of watercolor and ink with both a figurative and a looser more evocative approach and is especially passionate about trees.

We feel very lucky to live in such a beautiful part of the world with lovely woodland walks on our doorstep to explore with our dogs, and have developed a deep appreciation for the nature around us. We are keen supporters of wildlife preserving charities such as the Wildlife Aid Foundation in Leatherhead where Tracy regularly volunteers and the Surrey Wildlife trust, where we have both enjoyed learning skills such as hedge laying, along with the Marine Conservation Society which we recently raised over 900 for through sales when taking part in Surrey Open Art Studios.

We are also both members of London potters, and Tony is a member of British Plein Air Painters and is taking part in their annual exhibition this October 30th- November 5th in Central London.
