Alastair Minus

I am a fine furniture maker specialising in high quality, handmade, heirloom furniture and wooden gifts.

I specialise in making high quality, handmade, heirloom furniture.

Minus Fine Furniture endeavours to design and make unique, contemporary and functional pieces of furniture that will be loved and eventually handed down to the next generation. Using high quality, sustainable materials and tried and tested, traditional joinery and construction methods, our furniture is designed to last and designed to provoke some kind of emotional connection.

At Minus Fine Furniture, we believe furniture should provoke some feeling that creates an emotional attachment. This is built from exceptional design and making standards as well as a more personal experience between us and you the customer.

Rest assured you are in good hands, any piece of furniture that you buy or commission from Minus Fine Furniture is designed and made with the utmost care, and passion. Our love for the craft is visible in every piece we make.

My name is Alastair Minus, born in 1998 in Kent, England. I have always enjoyed being creative and practical thanks to growing up watching and helping my dad with jobs around the house. Having taken interest in DT in school my passion for furniture grew during my A-Levels, during which I took a woodturning course at Stiles and Bates which really ignited my love for the craft. After leaving school I took an apprenticeship at a carpentry and joinery firm where I learned machining and bench joinery. However, I cut my apprenticeship short when it didn’t work out and instead, I took a leap and went self employed, building my own workshop in my parent’s garden and carrying out carpentry and joinery work for some of the contacts I had made during my apprenticeship. It was at this time that my company, Minassian Woodwork was created.

Minassian Woodwork was inspired by my family’s Armenian heritage which we are very proud of, Minassian is the name that our family surname, Minus originated from and so I wanted to pay homage to this heritage.

In 2019 I decided to follow my real passion and specialise in fine furniture and so I enrolled in the prestigious Rycotewood Furniture Centre where I have been training for the past three years. Upon my graduation in June 2022, I wish to go back into working for myself but this time, under a new name: Minus Fine Furniture.
Minus Fine Furniture aims to design and make handmade pieces of furniture that are both beautiful in aesthetics and beautiful in their story and making.
