I work in ceramics firing in a barrel
I work with ceramics both on the wheel and hand built work. Most of my work is smoked and fired in a barrel . The tactile smoked work is decorative and it is unpredictable in how it comes out of the barrel. The greenware work is burnished until it has a smooth surface and feels silky. It is then fired in an electric kiln up to about 900 Deg C. After this firing it is put into a barrel with wood and sawdust, I light the barrel and leave it burn burn away. When the work is finished it get a light bees waxing to give it its lustre.
I also do blue and white glazed bowls, cups etc.
Teaching pottery in my studio I have no more than two people at a time. Which allows for personal attention.
