I make unique needlefelt art pieces to decorate the home at Christmas, or to display in a nursery.
I have always enjoyed crafting, and now that I am semi-retired, I am developing my hobby into a small business. I have exhibited at the Leicester university Botanical Gardens Open Day, and had such good feedback that I should like to exhibit at future events.
I spend a long time needle felting each piece, and enjoy making unique heirloom creations. I also like working with mixed media, and enjoy adding antique fabrics and lace to make my creations more special.
I have recently started making a collection of papier mache ships, each based on a well known story. For example, I have an Owl and the pussycat boat - painted pea green, of course - and a ship decorated with a Goldilocks theme, which boasts a needle felted baby bear as the sailor!
Over my career as a teacher of Music and French, I have made many creations for colleagues and friends. I grew up in Yorkshire, where I attended Fulneck Moravian School. The surroundings were so picturesque, and I had such a happy childhood, that it is easy to see where my inspiration for making whimsical nursery artwork stems from. I see my retirement as an opportunity to have a new adventure, sharing my creations with a wider audience!
