Handcarved stone homewares and jewellrey from beach stones.
Hand carved stone items from beachstones i collect from my Island shore inthe Scottish Hebrides. I make bowls, mortar and pestles, jewelley and occasionally sculptures. There is a variation of stone only seen in places where ice age glacial flows have desposited enormous amounts from all over scotland and from different ages.
I live on the isle of Tiree which is around thirty square miles so the shoreline is never too far away. Where the water meets the lands is the best place to find stone for my work. The constant action of the sea allows the detail in the stone to be seen as stone on land tend to be covered moss. algae and lichen.
Tirees bedrock which is predominantly Lewisian gniess has seams of marble outcroped in places. This too can be found on the shoreline and has an untold beauty unique to its island home.
