Pick-Art is the work of Tony Pickering (Me), an Artist, Illustrator, designer and graphic novelist whose work ranges over traditional and digital media - including ink, watercolour, gouache, oils as original work, giclee prints, posters and cards.
Personally I have a love of urban and country landscapes, people and movement and visualising ideas including diverse areas such as medical communications, archaeology, environmental science and history. Coming from a self-taught, then academically refined, background in English literature and drama, my work and images like to find a narrative in their subjects - whether through movement, tone or atmosphere.
My practice has a traditional focus with a digital twist, and as well as Art includes comics design, narrative illustration, storyboarding and sequencing. Recent work includes: urban visualisation and illustration for Carbon City Zero a set of playing cards to promote discussion of strategies to make cities carbon neutral the illustration and design of the graphic novel Diabetes: Year One that explores and visualises the experience of being diagnosed and living with type 1 diabetes illustration and design of archaeological research in graphic form for the Pre-History to Primary Schools project with Manchester University sequential web images for a new website, and the art-direction and design of Dr Giles’ Simple Life Advice, a booklet for children accessing medical services and dealing with social health for St Giles Medical Communications illustration of comics stories for Riddles Court – A Comic History for Magic Torch Comics – exploring the history of Riddles Court in Edinburgh whilst other projects have included character design and illustrations for the online promotion of The Family Tree Podcast as well as personal image-making exploring dementia, the landscape of cellular structures, and the rugby world cup.
I can be contacted, my work viewed, and Diabetes: Year One is available, through my website: Pick-Art
