Creating unique and beautiful household items from hardwoods highlighting the natural beauty of timber
My name is Alan Thompson, for most of my working life I have been a self employed builder and self taught joiner. Our work has been primarily on older houses or barn conversions and over the years I have acquired an interest of all things old and quirky and a love of natural materials and the beauty they hold. I am a great believer in the fact that the beauty mother nature has created cannot be surpassed by the human hand but sometimes it needs a little bit of help, as we all do , to enhance and highlight that beauty. I also believe that a big part of that natural beauty is in the imperfections created by events and the passing of time and just like us as human beings it is sometimes these imperfections that make us unique and appealing to others.
As I now look forward to a slower pace of life having recently moved to a smallholding in rural Cumbria I now want to channel my creative energy into producing a range of items in mature and seasoned hardwood, primarily coffee tables, chopping boards, mirror frames, turned wooden bowls and plates and numerous other products. The ethos behind everything I make is to enhance the beauty that already exists and embrace the imperfections. If you are looking for products that are uniform, square, straight or flat with the imperfections ironed out then I am probably not for you.
