Steph Holmes Pottery - Pottery and ceramics

Steph Holmes Pottery

Hand thrown pottery with original designs. My work includes slip decoration and marbled clay.

I am particularly inspired by history, narratives and nature. My love of history can be seen in my blue and white pottery which echoes ceramics found in the 18th and 19th century.
Most of my work is thrown on the potter’s wheel using a range of techniques. I particularly enjoy throwing with contrasting clays which creates a beautiful marble design. As well as the marble technique, I design and create my own stencils which I use when applying coloured slip. I find the simple silhouette pattern very pleasing and it reminds me of designs seen in traditional folk art.
After glazing the objects, I occasionally add lustre detailing which highlights the design.
So far, I have concentrated on making filled candles, which are filled with 100 percent soy wax. Other products I have been developing have been candle sticks, cake platters and other decorative items.
