I make beautiful jewellery in silver from natural found objects and repurpose old and loved textiles.
I love to create things! My art has spun off in many different directions but I have spent a lot of time developing two different areas: silver-smithing and textiles! Very different skill sets, but both looking at how to make something lasting and meaningful.
My silver work is all created from found natural objects which are cast in silver. These are then finished with different surface treatments, such as oxidation, and the addition of semi-precious stones. I began looking into casting objects when I couldn’t find a silver ammonite pendant to wear. I found the ammonite I wanted to use on the beach at Charmouth, and it all developed from there! My jewellery ranges are different sizes of ammonites seashells from UK beach holidays acorns from the New Forest. Anything I find in nature that speaks to me.
Textiles was not a media I would ever have thought I’d be working with. I ‘discovered’ sewing a few years back and it really took off in 2012. when my Dad died, we couldn’t bear to part with some of his more meaningful clothes, but also didn’t want to wear them. So I thought king and hard about what I could do to have these fabrics around me in a new way. I now take old clothing - shirts, ties, jeans, jumpers - and redesign them into cushions, bedspreads and bags.
I really love that everything I make has a story to it, whether I know the fabric’s origin or not.
