I design and make hand-crafted, wooden pieces and I take photographs that I mount as well as use to create greetings cards.
Nicholas Michael Photography and Woodcrafts
I have always been interested in photography but started ‘Nicholas Michael Photography and Crafts’ when I saw a very old, school blackboard being ripped out and dumped. I took the bits home and recycled them to create a frame for a narrow mirror with a small shelf for two tea-lights. A few friends and relatives saw this and asked if I could make one for them. I made something similar and this soon became a rather consuming obsession as I had to learn the many other skills necessary for a successful business. The steep learning curve is still being experienced and I am loving it.
My photographs are mainly British landscapes and nature. My wooden designs are varied: some are very natural and rustic whilst others are more traditional in design and finish. I create a wide variety of pieces from small tea-light holders to much larger mantelpieces and rustic, oak-beam shelves, with chopping boards/platters, clocks, wine racks, etc. in between.
I have a small stock and I also take on bespoke commissions.
