We make artisan seaglass jewellery using sterling silver. We collect the seaglass ourselves and then design each unique item.
Sally and I make our jewellery using seaglass that we collect from the beaches on the east coast of England. We then design and make each piece using 925 sterling silver . We have gained many skills in silversmithing over a number of years from attending specialist classes and hours of practice. We sell pendants, bracelets, earrings and anklets etc. We are both passionate about seaglass and see it as the ultimate in recycling!
Sally and I first met over 20 years ago when we ran creative groups for people recovering from mental health problems. We both loved the creative nature of our work from designing and building gardens to silk painting and pottery. Sally then moved to Suffolk which is where our love of seaglass took off. Initially we collected stones with holes from the beach but soon the call of that tiny piece of seaglass got us hooked . Over the years we have collected a large amount of seaglass but only a small proportion is perfect enough for our jewellery. The rest we use for pictures or bottle collections and of course we return glass to the sea if it is not yet ready!
We travel to Seaham a few times a year for our more unusual pieces of seaglass. Seaham is on the north east coast of England and is famous in seaglass collecting circles. There used to be a glass factory right on the cliff edge and unwanted glass was thrown directly into the sea at the end of each day. Some of the molten glass fused creating multicoloured pieces of glass. At one time the beaches were strewn with seaglass but nowadays the seaglass is harder to find, of course that does not stop us searching!
We developed our silversmithing skills purely to enhance the natural beauty of our seaglass. We do not shape the seaglass except to sometimes drill a small hole when creating a particular design. The seaglass is polished using coconut oil.
We have our own website and Etsy shop but prefer to meet with our customers at local craft fairs. This way people are able to see and feel our jewellery and we get a chance to talk about all aspects of our love of seaglass.
