The fantastic, the mythical and the obscure brought to life in porcelain sculpture.
Wizards, witches, mythical creatures, gnarly monsters, fairies and dragons. Out of sight from the hustle and bustle of our modern life, occupying that space between our dreams and reality……
My fantasy sculptures are one of originals, hand crafted in porcelain, which although known to be a challenging material to work with has a surface texture, colour and light reflection that stands above all other ceramic materials.
Each piece is hand formed, refining shapes, muscular definition and adding detail as it progresses. This process is usually over several days or weeks with the material dried in the air or ‘held back’ under polythene as the particular section of work demands. The model is then fully air dried over a few weeks before the first firing. A light wash of black porcelain slip is applied which is then mostly removed and the sculpture is then fired a second time to complete.
In addition to the porcelain, I also hand sculpt in mixed media using two-pack epoxy, polymer clay and in some instances including porcelain parts. These are finished by hand painting and with a slightly more intreging feel generally fall under the rapidly expanding genre of Dark Art - you have been warned!
