PictureSynthesis blends an appreciation for beauty with a passion for wood by designing and handcrafting wooden pictures of lifes most memorable and iconic images. We have carefully selected wooden veneers from the finest trees to recreate some timeless and unique pictures.
The art of designing and creating pictures using wooden veneers is called marquetry. The origins of this skillful and time consuming technique can be traced as far back as the early 19th century. It can take hundreds of man hours to create the finest works of art.
We first choose a suitable picture and analyse it to identify its most important features and details. We then select the veneers for this picture based on colour, grain pattern, texture and species. Patterns are transferred to the veneers, which are then carefully and painstakingly cut with the utmost most attention to detail. All the different pieces of the picture are arranged, checked and re-cut if necessary. Once the assembled veneers are up to standard, they are then glued to a wooden back board. The completed picture is given a beautiful finish with Danish Oil and then framed.
