Loom Weaving with Wool

This one day workshop introduces students to the heritage craft of hand-weaving. Wool will be used as a traditional material for woven cloth with Eco-credentials wool is having a resurgence as consumers increasingly question the ethics of using fibres from non-renewable sources. Wool is beneficial to both the environment and to the wearer/user: it supports British farmers and the chain of businesses that handle the fibre on its journey to final product. Rebecca offers wool yarns from farms and businesses, many of which are located in the south-west Fibreshed region, where there is a passion for native and rare-breed sheep such as the Cotswold and Ryeland.

Many of the techniques and processes that will be taught are transferable, should students be inspired to continue their learning onto more complex types of looms. However the looms we use in the workshop are inexpensive and offer limitless scope to experiment with other yarns be they finer, chunkier, hand-spun or ‘Art’ yarns.
