More about Festive Porcelain Lantern Workshop
The beauty of porcelain is captured in its translucent and delicate qualities and has always enchanted us. With its roots originating in China, it has captivated the world, becoming an enigma and mysterious puzzle to unravel. Today there are many formulas that are easy to obtain from clay manufacturers.

We will be working with porcelain paper clay which is strong and forgiving, yet retains its elegance and response to light. Through step-by-step guidance we will explore a number of hand building and decorative techniques.

Incorporating slab construction and moulds the day will be structured with plenty of scope to incorporate your own creative ideas. Once the basic composition of your lantern has been made, we will investigate ways of adding surface decoration, including sculpting and press moulding.

As part of the design, we will consider what type of light you plan to use. Your lantern will bring magic to your Christmas festivities with a candle or small bulb.

Each process will be clearly demonstrated and is suitable for those who have little or no experience as well as those with greater knowledge. All materials and clay tools will be supplied. Once finished your work will be kiln fired and ready to collect or posted (cost to be confirmed) three weeks after the course and in time for Christmas.
