A Spanner in the Works.. More Botanical Contact Printing

Wednesday, 29 April 2020 - 10:30 till 16:30 for 2 days until Thursday, 30 April 2020

“To understand principles and practice of eco printing at an intermediate level”

In the magical environment of the Grade II listed Palm House in Sefton Park, you will extend your knowledge and understanding of basic principles of botanical contact [eco] printing, learning to apply natural dyes, tannins and iron to create beautiful and complex prints.

The workshop will include a guided tour with the gardener of the Palm House and its grounds, learning about plants as you go.

You will learn about the different properties of leaves and natural fibres which need to be considered when making prints. You will also learn how to prepare cloth and paper for printing, and will use local foliage, including some from the Palm House, to print textiles and papers with dye colours of your choice, using a range of techniques to apply dyes, tannins and mordants.

Above all you will learn a great deal and have fun in a beautiful environment, and take home with you some wonderful prints on paper and on textiles.
